Trends and Variability of Oxygen Inventory and Supply in Eastern Boundary Oxygen Minimum Zones

 

The objective of A4 was to understand how oxygen minimum zones are maintained by ocean circulation and how oxygen is supplied to them. Another important aspect was the scales of temporal variability in oxygen levels in view of their potential relevance for microbial metabolism. Most of the work was based on continuous long-term observations that provided a reference data set of importance to several subprojects. The regional focus lied on the Tropical Eastern North Atlantic during the first phase.
