SUBPROJECT - A5
Water mass structure in the Tropical Eastern Pacific Ocean: Relationship to oxygen variability and geochemical properties
The objective of A5 was to combine a hydrographic and a tracer study of the Tropical Eastern South Pacific to investigate the mean, variability and trends of the water mass distribution and currents in the region of the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ). The investigation established the present-day situation of the OMZ, which was put into the perspective of trends in water mass composition and oxygen content over the past 50 years and their relation to ventilation, circulation, mixing and biological productivity.
