Pelagic Community Responses to Changes in Nutrient Stoichiometry

The ocean's redox state strongly influences inorganic nutrient inventories and stoichiometry. While the supply of nutrients to the surface layer controls overall marine productivity, nutrient stoichiometry determines the functional type and elemental composition of phytoplankton. This affects the nutritional value of phytoplankton for higher trophic levels, impacts zooplankton growth and reproduction, and influences the stoichiometry of recycled nutrients. Subproject B2 analysed and predicted pelagic community responses to redox-induced changes in nutrient stoichiometry.
