SUBPROJECT - A1
Simulating the spatio-temporal variability of oxygen minimum zones from the Holocene into the Anthropocene
The aim of the subproject is to use a global state-of-the-art atmosphere-ocean general circulation model (AOGCM) in combination with a complex marine biogeochemical model to investigate the spatio-temporal variability of oxygen minimum zones (OMZs) during the Holocene (last 10000 years), and over the next few centuries. Although the Holocene climate was rather stable at the global scale, larger changes occurred regionally with regard to seasonal and interannual variability. These may have influenced marine productivity in the low-latitude ocean with a potential imprint on the extent and intensity of OMZs.
