Unraveling the onset and spread of Cretaceous Anoxia

We investigate the underlying mechanisms and timing of Late Cretaceous oceanic anoxic event 2 (OAE2) and compare it to Early Cretaceous OAE1a. Using high resolution geochemical data from sedimentary core material from Tarfaya, Morocco and models such as our recently developed benthicpelagic biogeochemical module as well as a climate model of intermediate complexity we get new insights regarding underlying boundary conditions that led to the development of widespread ocean anoxia.
